Default Jetting for YFZ450 w/o jet kit

Just picked up a YFZ450 and got the GYTR pipe upfront but the jet kit has to be ordered. I have a duning trip coming up in 2 weeks so I want to get some time in with the pipe and air box lid off.

I'm currently at 5,000' so I think I'll be fine without rejetting but when I go down to 0-500', I'll obviously need to go bigger. With the jet kits, I've read most people are at 165-170. Without the jet kit, should this be fine also?

I just got my YFZ on satuday. I can't afford a pipe right now so I just took the baffle out of the pipe. I don't know if I have to re-jet or not. I shouldn't. But if the airbox lid comes off, you will need to rejet.

Go to the dealership, and get the next 2-3 richer mains, and the next 2-3 jets leaner. I think those jet kits are a waste of money. Each of those jets I just listed are $2-$3 dollars a piece for the 50-60 bucks you spend on a "jet kit" how many jets do you think YOU could buy. They slap their name on it, change the jet numbers, make a slightly more aggressive needle, and expect you to pay double the cost of the items from OEM. Your quad's carb can be dailed in just fine with the OEM jets and needles, and chances are good they have them In stock. Good luck, hope you get her squared away before your trip. I agree that the jet kits are a waste of money. Get the YZF dirtbike needle and put it on clip #3 or #4. Then put 45 or 48 pilot in and a 168 or 170 Main. The stock needle works OK but the YZ needle makes it run much crisper!

I agree save your money and just buy the yz needle, 48, and 165 or 170. I'm @ 1000' and I use 48, yz needle w/clip on 3rd, and a 170. Fuel screw 2 turns out. It should be real close

The YZ450F needle is the same as the needle you get in the GYT-R jet kit for the YFZ. I posted the part # in an earlier post.
