Default 2004 GRIZZLY (BREAK IN AND OIL)

I got about 26 miles on my 2004 grizzly. What should I do just as a saftey check? What kind of oil would you guys suggest? I use the golden spectro blend in my DS. Will this work well in the Grizzly too?

Seeing as I don't change it nearly as often as a car, I buy that $7.50 semi-synthetic Yamalube motorcycle oil. Its pricey as hell, but the quad only takes like 2.3 quarts. Plus, I only have to change it like every 6 months anyway.

A lot of people use different stuff though. I read all that jazz about don't use regular oil in a quad, because it has anti-friction modifiers. So I changed just to be safe. All I've ever run in any of my quads before this was just regular Quaker state 10W-40. Seemed to work ok. Thats all I will put in my old honda either. No sense dropping big cash for oil on that old bike. It has no problems though.

You'll want to refer to your service manual for the initial break-in service check. They recommend checking all hoses, clamps, bolts, connections, air filter, valves, oil change, and I'm sure I'm missing a few things.

As for oil, I'd recommend Mobil 1 MX4T 10W-40 fully synthetic. I run this in my bikes and it's good stuff. In my area, it goes for $8/qt.

at just over 20hrs, I changed the oil and filter. Changed front diff fluid and couldn't get the plug off the rear pumpkin. I used Yamahalube

at 40hrs, I took it to the dealer and had a full service done. It was around 100 bux. They set the valves, lubed it all and changed all the fluids. I'll continue to do this. Change it myself at 60, dealer at 80 etc etc

That was a good point. The valves on a 660 seem to get out of whack fairly quick. I've done mine twice, and it probably wouldn't hurt to check them again sometime soon, but thats a pain in the butt.
