New 700 and Scrambler 500
#1
Hello everyone. Just purchaced a 04 Sp700 and a 04 Scrambler 500 for my son and I. While I'm not out for flat speed, I was wondering what you all would recommend for these 2 machines.
I spent alot of time reading, but was a bit lost on some of the items suggested here.
I do remember something about Clutch springs to make the clutches engage sooner, and maybe a auto chain tensioner. Any imput on these?
While I'm pretty much going to be keeping these units stock, any helpfull hints to make them more dependable and drivable would be appreciated.
Thank you...
Craig

A service manual is the first thing you should buy, if you havent already. A K&N with an Outerwears is always a good investment. It will be the last air filter you will need to buy. If your son likes to jump, then a chain tensionor is a good idea. A clutch kit will help with wheelies and giving you better acceleration while extending the life of the belt. Ride them around for awhile and if you decide that that you want the clutch to engae earlier or later then a clutch kit or simple spring change can take care of that. And Welcome to the forums. You picked 2 mighty fine machines.

Thanks for your reply. I have the service manuals on my list of 1st things to get.
I just took the SP700 out for a little 1st run today and it was alot of fun. I do seem to have some kind of carb problem going on however. When I got on a wide smooth flat dirt road I opend it up and was running about 6,000 rpms, and all of a sudden it dropped to about 5,300. Seemed like it was starving for fuel. I slowed down, hit it again and it was fine.
It happened again later on and this time it kept doing it. I pulled the choke for a sec, felt it load up, pushed the choke closed and the motor caught and took off. I will have to investigate.
I will give it some time before I start tearing into it. Thanks for the info about the tensioner , AF and clutch springs. My son and I are both new to ATV's so we have no idea what kind of riders we are going to be, just hope it is the rubber side down type for sure.
Thanks again...

Actually I don't have either. That quote relates to my Harley. I spend alot of time well above the posted speed limits out on the open highways When it comes to the Harley, I ride at death speed, not veg speed lol
