Default Help with 727 kit

Hi guys. I just bought a 727 piston kit, new clutch, and air box. I already have a big gun exhaust, K&N filter, and jets. My local yami shop is gonna bore the motor for me. I know I will need to get a cam. I wanna get a hotcams stage 1 for the bottom end. With this cam work with this much motor. Also will I need new valve springs? I know I should also buy a new rod. Do you have to machine the head and get new oversized valves to run this motor? I have heard so many different stories about this but I'll ask you guys because you seem to know the most. What kind of octane gas will I need to run. Some people say you can run 93 others say you run 93 and mix it with race gas. others say you have to run at least 101 or better. which is right? or are any right? Thank you guys for all your help. If theres anything else I would need to buy please let me know. Thanx again

Default Help with 727 kit

with a 727 you will have no shortage of bottom end regardless of what cam you run.........
I run the stage 2 hot cam with my low comp 686 and have GOBS of bottom end.....

I recomend running the stage 2 cam.....and if you do straight drag racing I would recomend the 685 web cam......

I agree with bartlettracing.......but you may add a swingarm, larger jets, and a different exhaust to that list...........

Default Help with 727 kit

Wow, I knew it was quite a job but I didn't know that much was coming!!! thanx alot guys for all your help. Now that I have this info I may have found myself a little over my head If I decided to do a 686 what all would I have to do to it. I heard you didn't have to split the case for that, that would be nice. Also would 01 gears hold the 686?? I knew with the 727 they would have to be replaced. I also like the fact that the 686 is a little more reliable, at least so i've heard. I guess the 727 was kind of a pipe dream. I don't really have the budget for it. I am a senior in high school, so a lot of my time is used in school instead of making money working. thanx again for all your help, I appreciate it very much!!

you don't have to split the cases with the 686, that is for sure.

it's a much easier project.
