Default TB 400 Maintenance

Well, I know there are a bunch of Polaris 400 experts on the board (you know who you are) and I habe a question concerning the maintenance on my 03. With all the talk lately about the counterbalancer, where do I find the dipstick to check the oil in the counterbalancer?? Is it the yellow finger ring just below and in front of the front sprocket?? If it is great, but I can't seem to get mine out, does it need to twist or anything?? I just wanted to check with you guys before just yanking on it. If it is not, I need to know where I check the counterbalance oil, and what exactly the yellow pull is for.

Thanks in advance!

I think what you are talkin about is the dipstick for the tranny. If you look right in front of that dipstick you should be able to see the counterbalance dipstick. It is located directly behind the recoil housing. The dipstick for the counterbalancer will be a screw in type. The tranny dipstick should just pull out.Hope this helps.

Like CED said - the ring type dip stick is for your tranny - try rotating it a little while pulling to break it free, it uses O rings to seal and they sometimes stick (a little oil on the O rings before putting it back in helps seat the dip stick back in the tranny).
Here is a visual to help find where CED pointed out the balance shaft dip stick: #22 Dip Stick - Crankcase

And the tranny one is a piece of cake to remove compared to the counterbalancer one. I dropped the dip stick on mine last week and had to remove the skid plate and look for 20 min to find it.

Started working on it last night. The pipe is out being cleaned and painted. I plan to be back together and running for the 50 degree weather we are supposed to have this weekend.
