Back in the old days Direct Connection (Mopar hot rod parts) had a recipe for setting up a car for drag racing. It started with little things in groups and worked it's way up to some serious mods for very fast drag cars.
I'd like to see something like that for this forum, the most commonly recommended parts for stock through heavily modded big bores. how many times does someone new get on this post and ask a gearing, jetting or paddle question. I wonder if we could all vote on these kind of parts, not nessesarily brand names and have the moderator find a way to place these on the header? We could catagorize the same stages used in fourstroke wars!
Something like

Stock DS or Baja-sand drags basics
22" 8 or 9 straight paddles
15 tooth front 42 rear
K&N jet kit
Better filter
Opened endcap

Later catogories would add on full exhaust, CDI, cams, carbs pistons etc.
What are all your thoughts on this? maybe a short blurb on tuning help especially that pesky idle mixture screw.

That sounds like a good idea. I think it might server well to put some kind of points system on each mod though. IE: 1 point meaning a few people recomend this and 10 points means EVERYONE 100% agrees on the item.

For instance - you recomended a 42 tooth rear sprocket - I don't have one & haven't really ever thought about buying one. I have however bought a 15 tooth front for my 2001 DS and am planning to buy one for my 2003 DS. Something like that - where the 15 tooth front would have a higher points value than the 42 tooth rear.

If you look at my sig I actually run 15-43. 15-42 is just for example, popular for not having to change chain length. 14-40 is also cheaper but may have wear problems. Also these are for my area and sand conditions vary even here. I would gear the 2004s differently anyway, a little higher say 15-40 or 41 since they don't have so much weight to spin and should hook better with shorter swingarms and lighter front ends. One easy acid test is to watch what each person uses and wins with at FSWIII coming soon. I agree some factors should be voted on.
