scrambler 500 oil tank
#1
Does anyone know why polaris changed the oil tank on the scrambler from aluminum to plastic ? if it was for weight, how much did it save? and would like cool the oil as good as the aluminum one because it has fins and the plastic one doesn't. thanks for any info!

My guess is the tank is a resivior for extra capacity and not cooling. It may cool some, but that is a secondary funtion. If you notice some bikes like Harleys have the oil tank under the seat behind the air cooled engine where there is likely to be more heat. The scrambler is liquid cooled so it has even more protection. My guess is the composite plastic tank is cheaper and easier to make and as durable as aluminum.

I agree to. Probably cheaper. The oil tank on my harley is under the seat too. No cooling from that But, they make auxilery oil coolers that go on the downtube. If you are worried about cooling your oil, I am sure that you can get an oil cooler for a motorcycle or car and make it work on a scram. Wouldnt be a 1/2 bad idea
