Default Mojave, can't figure it out!!!

Ok guys, I'm new here...was a member a long time ago... I'm having trouble with my Mojave. It starts fine, 2nd or 3rd kick....and it will idel, but it boggs...and backfires sometime if you rev it at idel and I CAN'T figure it out. I've set the valves, checked the timing....and of course it's getting gas. WHAT the heck? I've even swapped out carbs...still the same old story. Any ideas???? Thanks

Bad spark plug or plugged air filter maybe?

mine did a similar thing one day until it wouldnt run at all and then i had to get new valves because these were like mushroomed from a previous bad valve job. the exact same thing happened when i ran out of gas draging. backfire and when i would rev it it would die. you sure your floats not stuck or something.

No, it's got a new plug...and I've swapped in a carb that's been gone over...so I'm stumped. I've got everything you need...Air, Gas and Spark...it even runs, just not worth a crap. Who knows something about the timing on these things?

oldernfatter,

Have you checked the air/fuel screw on the carb?

Does the airbox fit snug with the carb? (The rubber boot?)

Have you had a chance to test compression?

Have you set the valves to the manual's specs?

You've probably covered all of this, but if not, I hope they help.

If you have any questions, just ask....

Well, I've run the choke all over the place...it makes no difference. Ya think I could have a valve sucking up into the head?
