are the bottom ends on the liquid cooled/air cooled models the same? interchangable

Are you talking about switch cylinder/heads? to diffrent cases. then..

No there def, not. For one the jugs are diffrent between the years. 2- One has a water impeller 3- The liquid has to go throw a part of the case. And there are other reasons but those are the biggest.
