Default 04 trailboss help

I bought my wife an 04 Trailboss and when I got it home and rode it, it makes a clinking noise when you get it up to about 15-20mph. We had an 03 Trailboss that did not make this noise. It sounds like it is coming from the rearend some where but I can not seem to pinpoint it. Does anyone have an idea or seen this before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

My wifes did this it was the chain hitting the chain guide. I was told by friends to take the guide off because it was known to cause the chain to break no more noise.

I'm with 65chevelle. Most likley the chain guard. I think the idea of the chain guard was better than the reallity of it. They can be a nuisance. You can try to adjust it, but in the end you will most likley remove it like most of us do.

My TB makes that noise when the chain is loose.

I haven't taken my guard off. In fact I've replaced it once. It got eaten up by the chain. But I think all it does is add some friction to the system, on an already fairly slow quad.

But I may consider removing it now. I need a new chain anyway.

put it on jackstands and spin the rear end and see if the chain is dragging. Hopefully it is, but if not it could be a bearing in the axle...Being brand new it is unlikely...check the swingarm and see if moves left to right. If it does than it weill need to be tightened.....If chain is dragging than it wil need to be adjusted....hope this helps

Hi I too find my chain guide to be a bother and have to constantly adjust it. I thought about removing it but wonder if it will have any negative effect on my chain or shorten the life of the chain ect..........I guess what I am asking is have any of you who have removed the chain guide had any problems by doing so ?

Thanks.

I haven't had any chain problems on ours. I have friend that have had alot of Polaris's over the years and thats the first thing they do is remove the chain guide. They have had the guide to cause the chain to come off and break.

I ended up taking it to a dealer and all he did was very slightly loosen the chain and the noise went away. I want to thank everyone who replied.
