Keihin 39mm FCR for stock bore motor?? What do ya think?
#1
I know the stock carb is 42MM, but we all know the stock carb sucks! My Uncle might be getting his hands on a YZ426F parts motor and it has the 39mm FCR carb on it. He don't need it and he said he would give it to me to try on my DS. I'm not gonna pass it up, the carb cost $700 to buy! So I was wondering, is it gonna work on my DS650? The motor is all stock so even though the carb is slightly smaller me and my uncle especially don't see why it wouldn't work. I mean, it would definatly be better than the stock carb right? He said he'll help me tune it for my motor because he knows a lot about that carb but I want some opinions on this. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I have run a 41mm FCR I put it on before anyone had much info on the DS-650. Call SUDCO http://www.sudco.com/ to find out what needle you will need. I went thru about 6 before I got it right.

Thanks for the info! I don't mean to sounds stupid but do you mean the slide needle, or the needle jet?...

Well I looked at the diagrams and all. Lots of letters/#'s and it got me confused in a hurry. So, do I need to call them and tell them the situation about me using a 39mm FCR on a stock DS650 motor or what? I don't mean to be a pest but I'm not quite sure what I need to do after I get this carb. I'm sure my uncle has extra jet's, needles and everything, so we'll figure it out. Thanks for the help.
But what do you people think about this set up? You think it'll work decent? Just wanting some opinons. I hope my uncle gets this motor cuz I sure want to try it and find out!

For $350 you can get a Mikuni 42 MM TMX Flat slide, pretty well the best performance carb made.
The stock CV carb has to wait until vacuum builds up before the diaphragm pulls the slide up. With the flatslide carb you pull the slide directly, giving you instant throttle response.
