CR 80R Vs. 400EX
#1
Ok, well, I just bought a CR 80R from a friend and I'm thinkin it will beat a 400EX. What do you guys think?? Well, actually the main question is is it hard to re-spoke a rear rim?? I thought I'd throw in the Vs. 400EX so someone would actually read this. So is it too hard to re-spoke a rear rim?? Any special tools required?? Thanx for any and all replies.

No I don't believe a CR80 would beat a 400EX (not in top speed anyway). I notice that you're listed as Flagstaff, I live and work in Prescott. Own a dirt bike/ATV store & service center. I've respoked rims for my own bikes, but won't do it for anyone else's. We tell people to go to a bicycle shop for respoking motorcycle rims.

well I know my old cr80 expert would outrun my 300ex but I don't know about a 400ex. yea probably in a drag race it would win off the start but I don't know about top speed. once you hit the power band you shift as fast as you can. so I dunno but probably not on top speed. later

Hey, thanx for all the replies!! I think it will outrun the 400. We'll see once my new tire comes in! I re-spoked the rim myself today, it realy wasnt too bad, just time consuming! Well, I'll be racing my friends 400EX this thursday or so. So I'll be back in to tell y'all who won. By the way, both bikes are stock.

in 1985 I was riding an 83 yz80..........I got smoked by a box stock 350X.
drag racing on a hard packed dirt road, the 350x hooked up, and the yz80 spun like heck.....either way, I lost.
the ground you race on will tell the story.....find some fresh grass where the dirt bike will hook up........but back off & let him pass you after 4th gear......this way you will be able to say you "let" him pass you (since he will anyway

The Commodore Pet was also a fast computer in 83 but I would not race it against a PentiumIII. The new stock motocross bikes on the showroom floor are better and faster than the heavily modified team bikes of the 1980s.

I think that the CR would give it a run for the money. I had a 98 and a 99 CR80. Those things were quick. I have heard that they are the fastest stocks 80's, anyway I know the CR will win at the acceleration, maybe topend.
