My odometer on my SP500 '00, just went on the blink again. Happened once before and was replaced under warranty, now I am about 3 weeks outside the warranty period. Definetely a problem with the units, will go to dealer tuesday. Any of you have any insight or info to help me prepare for my visit? I will be working the defective part avenue. Hard to keep up with maint. with out an hour or odometer. Thanks for any input.

I wouldn't think any problem they must be defective depends on dealer, but if you have trouble get a hold of POLARIS yourself. }) CM

Usually, when some part is replaced (under warranty or not), the repair has it's own warranty. That's why they usually give you a invoice (or some other document) when you have repairs under warranty, even if you didn't pay a cent, so the date of the repair can be established.

I agree with you offspring there is something definetly screwy with the speedometers, the way they contain moisture is still a mystery to Polaris. If you don't have a very cooperative dealer as such I have contact Polaris personally and you can count on most of us to email them asking them whats the deal with the moisture in the speedometers and why are so many people having trouble with them. Mine will develop moisture right in the bottom of it without it even getting wet...some people may think this is uncalled for b#tching but when you pay over 6K for something it should work right...I love my Polaris but it definetly has its reliability problems although I have over 500 miles on mine with no problems except one I created...They are the most awesome machines on the trail but do seem to have more problems than other bikes the way I looked at when I bought mine I wanted the most awesome bike no matter how bad the reliability so if I would have not had a real good dealer and I do plan on purchasing the extended warranty...the way I figure it I paid 6k for my bike and with the extended warranty I will still be under 7k if you know what I mean and have disc brakes, water cooling, 4 wheels that pull instead of 3, IRS and about a dozen other things I like about the bike, let us know how things work out...

I would raise HELL if they did not fix it! THe American car companies got their lunch handed to them because of reliability problems and terrible dealer support by the Japs a few years ago. They have since improved things to include thier warrantee service. Maybe Polaris needs to loose some market share that they have worked SO hard to get to give them a wake up call.

There is NO EXCUSE for a Polaris machine to be any less dependable than a Jap ride!

atving,
You really need to go back to English class. You and a few others who visit this forum. You should really take your time and try to get things right, instead of putting out 200 word run-on sentences. It makes it pretty hard to follow. Just my thoughts.

You know Walexa nothing personal, but guys like you, really p#ss in my cheerios. You know I come to the forum as a place to relax, I write reports all day long that have to be close to perfect. And then when I want to come on here to relax to take a few shortcuts ( I would write words like hve and jst if I could get buy with it). And then because I don't start a new paragraph, or miss a comma or period here and there, I have to hear h#ll for it.
I read the post you were talking about considering the time of the morning I wrote it sounds pretty good, so do you want us all to start writing stuff that needs proof read by a college professor, then you would have about 5 new post a day.
And for your information I have one completed associate degreee in Mining Tech and a half of degree in criminology so no I don't think I need any more schooling. U no I cood see it if it weer wrote like dis, so gimme a d#m brake will ya (Oh also notice that I spaced twice after the period which is proper typing etiquette which I haven't seen you do.
What do you think guys is this going to turn into a place where people start policeing this site for spelling and english...
I hope this post suited you, I read the other one and could plainly understand the point I was trying to get across about the speedometer.
I will make it short for you if you didn't understand, mine gets wet, it could screw up, call polaris we will back you up, my bike has reliability problems but I love it, do you understand the post now sheesh give me a d#m break.

Oh and by the way I edited this after reading it, I am no college professor but I guess it will have to do.

Hey Weedy I agree with you 100%, I watched a show one time where the american companys were useing cheaper products in the 60's and 70's. That is the reason they got slammed so hard. Maybe Polaris needs to be taught a lesson, I really got mad when I read the post about the back bolts breaking, you know this is really unexcusable. I own a 67 corvette even though it has its problems it is a pretty solid car but some junk was turned out in this era...
I will tell you though if Honda would have put some more goodys and kept the price down a little bit more, I am like Bill C. I am not brand loyal, I just go with the particular bike that gives me the features I want and need...and man I needs that true 4 wheel drive hehehe even if it is junk hehehe.
