non-dune DS??

You know seeing all the DS's in the sand makes me wonder if there really is such a thing. Im getting a used one in the spring (hopefully) and I think I'll be the only one bashing through the woods......if somebody shows me a non-dune DS, I'll have a renewed hope But really are they only good for the dunes??? When I rode one it wasnt in the dunes and I thought it worked great...jmo

Is the DS good in the woods? The answer is yes. However, it is wide, sometimes a little too wide for some trails. There are trails I can take my 440EX that will not fit the DS. If you like riding the trails fast, be aware that you'll have to steer as much with your arms on the handle bars, as you butt in the seat. throwing your weight around to help it turn is normal - especially quick tight turns. My 440EX is better in the trails, but that does not mean that the DS sucks in the trails.

One thing to consider as well is the weight. I believe the DS650 is close to 500 lbs. It does not have reverse, so occasionally you will get some heavy lifting with your riding. Depending on the trails you ride, it will require a little more forethought. In a lot of cases, if you need to turn around you can run partially up a hill and come back down backwards and turn the wheels to get going in the opposite direction. Ironrod was right about the trails, I've talked to a couple of DS650 owners that occasionally get "pinched" on some of the smaller trails.
Another thing you may want to consider is an aftermarket pipe, jetting, filter, for the DS650. From what I've read, the DS650 has a slight dip in it's powerband early on (low rpms), but that it is easily corrected with the jet, pipe and filter.

I've never been to the dunes (yet). But I'm dreaming every night about it! My DS is a trail DS.
