Hey, what Plugs do you guys think would be best in a rancher 4x4? I saw on the Artic Cat forum that the NKG CRE8 worked well, any suggestions?

Thanks.

Why don't you just replace your new spark plug with the same spark plug as the one that came with your quad like everyone else does?

Not like everyone else does, different spark plugs give you more power, some burn hot, some burn slow, cold.. The spark plug can give you MAJOR power/throttle increases.

Has anyone tried a split fire spark plug for their Rancher? If so does it give you any performance boost?

I Bought a NGK Platinum plug for my 450ES today. After a jet kit, K&N Filter and a Supertrapp IDS2 , why risk a weak link ! Especially when they are only $5.00 or so !

Whoa!!! Hold the boat!! Sparkplugs (other than the recommended stock OEM) can give you a major power/throttle increase? Now I am not a mechanic but I have been involved in snowmobile racing and engine mods for a number of years and if what you are saying is true then it is one of the best kept secrets around. I have made minor mods to plugs knowing that there would be a MODEST hp increase (detectable only through a dyno test) but I have never seen or heard of major performance increases through a simple plug change.

And BTW, according to the dynos, splitfires do not make any more power.

Just my $.02 worth.

Its true its all true!!!
When I had my YZ80 you had a choice between three plugs to use a BR7ES(cold) BR8ES(moderate)
BR9ES(hot). Now I know that this is a different kind of engine than what is in most of our quads but the differance between the 7 and the 9 was a huge, the bike screamed with the BR9es plug in it.
When I first got the bike I had to get a BR7es because the plug that was in it was too much for me.With the 7 in it the rpms stayed down and the power band was short and brief. But with the 9 the rpms were high and the power band was litterally never ending, there was a lot more tourqe and a poop load of more power.(notice I did not swear)
I think that changing the plug in your atv will make a huge differance. I say go for it!!!
I am going to talk to my dealer to see what he says. Then I will get back to you.
