I have a 02 400 X and want to know the best way do add mad acceleration to this machine. Im actually keeping my eye open for a cheap good used DS, but if that fails then to the mod shop i go!! I want to give my machine much better acceleration. I was thinking a HPD race pip and K&N for now...thatd wake things up a bit. In the future ill get more in depth with engine work and body mods, but for now I want to make this quad haul some affordable a$$ without spending too much.

Well if you put a pipe then you will need a clutch kit for it to reach the pipes peak rpm's.Then it depends on what type of pipe you are planning on getting. If it's the race style pipe, like mine. Then you will need race porting, carb and so on.Just adding the race pipe and a k&n will not do you much good. And the stock piston won't last very long with that anyhow. So you can call him now or you can call him later.

If you not going to port it better go for a trail pipe and clutch kit! Probably won't have any bottom end without some port work with the race pipe!

I have the same machine and I used Rick Ritters Mid Range Kit, you get the pipe, air box mods, new jets, and clutch spring. Seriously, give the man a call, I think you'll be quite pleased with their knowledge and their desire to help you. The kit I purchased made one hell of a difference in my top speed and the power band.

I have a heavy mod 400L engine- ( if yours is a 2 stroke)anything you do for power will cost unless you find someone with some good sell or ebay. I would suggest: AAEN trail pipe and silencer, dual stage Boyesean reeds, rejet to 35 or 40 pilot and 290 main jet, uni dual stage air filter, remove the air box snorkel, kevlar belt. You could drain the radiator - take just the head off and remove .020"(should be cheap). i really like the heelclicker primary clutch system -easy to adjust to what you want. just some thoughts
