I have a 99 sport 400. Its stock except for the injector block off kit. I pre-mix at 32:1. I bought this used 3 months ago so I'm still new at 2 strokes. The problem is that when she starts she smokes out of the exhaust until i start riding her. Is this normal? do I need to lean the mixture out? If yes what is the correct setting? I dont have a manual for this quad yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes that would be normal, do not lean it out for that reason only-you may melt the piston. Check the plug color after fully warmed up riding, paper bag brown is what you want for color. White is lean, black is rich....

 

Thanks for the tip. I will check it next week. I have the belt off and im waiting for the new one to come it. I m going to check the counter balancer fluid again and change the gear lube in the tranny. We have snow up here so we wont be doing any serious riding for a while.
