600 Running Bad!!!
#1
Yesterday I went out riding for the first time in a few weeks and I was going down a trail around 30 when all of a sudden it sputtered and stalled. It started right back up and idles fine and runs fine when you leave a little choke on. I was wondering if anyone knows whats going on? Thanks

Without more details it's tough to say for sure. I am guessing you are running lean since it likes to run under partial choke. Best bet is to take apart the carb, make sure all the jets are free of debris and consider go one up on the main jet (or just move the clip to a lower groove position on the needle)

I had this same problem this past summer. I did everything I knew to fix it, but with no luck. Mine was still in warranty so I took it back to my dealer. They fixed it in about one minute. The mechanic showed me a piece of gray foam that is right under the back side of the gas tank, near where the seat hits the tank. He pulled the foam out and immediately it started running great. The mechanic said he had seen several come in with that very same problem. The foam had worked its way up about an inch and was choking off most of the air to the carb. The mechanic told me I could put it back on if I wanted, but he recommended just tossing it,,,so I did. I've not had that problem since....Hope this helps.

A blocked carb vent line is another common problem in 600s and 700s causing them to barely run. My 700 got the vent line out of place and was sucking against the gray foam under the seat and would barely run. The 03 models did not come from the factory with a filter on this line. If it doesn't have a filter on it, get one, it will suck in a lot of trash.

mine had the same problem with only about 50 miles on it!!! The dealer found I had pinched off the carb vent hose behind that piece
of foam and tha gas tank just above the carb, and when my seat was on it wouldn't run w/out the choke on. with seat off it ran fine...
just that extra pressure from the seat, the line out of place and the foam too high... another time it acted up several miles later
I found the ait valve in the carb sticking...when I removed it the spring was still in place-Iv'e heard it can pop out of place also. but I found
the valve was hangin up in the carb...it was very rough, almost pitted...so I just polished it up using emory cloth and then steel wool and
it has never acted up since.
