has anyone "snorkeled out" an Xpedition425?
#1
Ok, I like the water TOO much, Im considering snorkels on the Xpedition425. Since it is a gear driven tranny, I would only have to worry about the air(engine)intake, exhaust, and the vent lines. How do you attack the airbox? Do you come out the side with PVC and seal off the original intake? Also, is there any performance gain/loss when snorkeling the air intake?
Vent lines,
do you suggest splicing to the original line or remove and replace it entirely?
I appreciate any help

HAHAHAHAHAHA..... Another Water Junkie!!!... Welocome to the club.. hahahhaha....
Ronnie, I got lucky on the vent tubes.. I bought some flexible nylon tubing at the local hardware store that fit very securely (outside or inside I dont remember which) and I sealed it with a small clamp and silicone.
As for the airbox... its alot easier to do as you said. Close off the existing air intake with a piece of lexan or plexiglass and some silicone. Then use a hole saw to cut a hole in your airbox... Use the largest diameter pipe that space permits... also, use "flowed" or "sweeping" turns... Try to avoid using the tight 90 degree bends..
an Expedition Submarine huh?.. We're gonna have to start "The Sub Club!!"..

Ronnie,
As cheap as PVC is... Build it out of 1 1/2... Make sure you get a K&N and outerwears for it, and if after installing it, you don't get enough air... Then you may have to go up to 2" PVC...
You can also use a combination of the two.. Use 1 1/2 where space is at a premium, then bell it up to 2 inch.. Just make sure you use a bell, not a bushing to make the size jump... Anything to help smooth out airflow..
Or maybe duals???? Dual 1 1/2 snorkels coming up both sides of the quad...???.. hahahaha... That would be trick..!!..
I'm not sure how much air your 425 is gonna need, or how high it revs... but, the k&N will help equal out things. I know my brothers Yamaha (Old Smoky!) Is on 1 1/2 inch pipe... and he doesn't have any problems. I think we're gonna have to change it to 2 inch after the rebuild and modifications though.

I definately know once I get the 6x6 snorkeled I will join the Sub Club. If you ever have any snorkel questions about a POLARIS, MudMachine is your man, the dude knows everything. If your looking for a pretty cheap Lift ask him about it! Also I just wondering do you think a 6x6 will float pretty good??? If it does I guess it's the dang bed in the back that holds it up!!

I tell you what you need to do with that bed. Fill that sucker up with ice, beer/DrPepper, etc to keep the rear end on the ground so maybe the front will float!
BTW, is there anywhere to ride out Waxahachie way?

Ronnie,
I just ordered a 6x6 bed for my Magnum... Your idea of converting it to a cooler was irresistable.. BUT, what i'm gonna need to go along with that is a set of DUAL COKEHOLDERS (hint hint) for the front rack. That way I don't get caught using the famous last words of a redneck," Hey Dude, Hold My Beer and Watch This!!!"
The river is WAY out of the banks this week, kids are gone, g/f has to work.... and I have 4 running machines at the house.. 3 of which are 4x4... hahahaha...
This sound familiar," Oh Man, its not that bad, you can make it if you stay to the left!" hahaha..
later...

What a genius!!!! I might have to do that sometime. Yes there are places to ride around this area but you have to take the road to get to most of them(bummer on the tires). We have various mud holes, a creek that has a mud hole no one has been able to make it trough and a few trails in the woods and open land. My grandfater used to own a place in Lancaster before I had bought the 6x6 and I use to take my 1996 SP400 4x4 down there and ride when it was muddy. This place had tree sections sort of, there was a top section that had a little road big enough for a truck to go down that led to the middle section and you had to crawl over a muddy berm to get to the bottom. Just a 3-4inch rain would turn the thing in to a serious mud pit on the top and middle sections and a giant water park in the bottom section! I wish he still owned it! But ther is not as many place to ride as I would like there to be.

Im thinking about going to Fun Wheeler park(Longview Tx) next weekend(July15-16) and hook up with Robert for some more MUD action. Those guys take their mud seriously out there, its a lot of fun. You can follow me out there if you want to go.
If you look at the upper left hand corner of each persons reply you'll see their screen name and town below it. Cleburne is about an hour south of FtWorth. Feel free to email me about riding sometime.
Robert
youll have those "Coke" holders next time I see you
