Raptor Ready for Abuse (2nd tranny)
#1
Stats for the ****:
Broke at 8:30pm, 01/02/04
2 nights tear-down (10 hrs)
1 night case prep/clean-up (3hrs)
3 nights rebuild (15 hrs)
28 hrs total estimated labor (mine)
$200 parts
Fired up at 8:47pm, 01/15/04
Total down time: 288.283 hrs
Since this is becoming a regular thing I'm keeping track so I can do it faster next time !?
This is the second time it's busted on a New Years dune trip. I don't think the problem lies with the tranny, I think it's a New Years thing. I'm staying home next year.......
It's 100% for now. Until the next time.......

This time I just had to replace the 2nd gear pinion and oil pump gear. The rest of the cost was gaskets (they are expensive), some O-rings, copper washers, cir-clips etc....
Raptorboy,
The complete 01-to-02 conversion parts cost me $540 last year. I did the labor.
The service manual can be found at Raptor manual
and a complete tranny swap guide (step-by-step instuctions) is on www.raptortranny.com
Go for it !!

So Fisher are you still undecided on whether to keep the rappy or not? Glad you got her back together. MAN, that was a pretty fast turn around!

Yep - worked out pretty good. I needed to get it finished quick cause we are in the middle of dune season out here and there are still 3-4 trips on the schedule !! Luckily, I had the time.
Anybody know the dealer "shop time" or time it's supposed to take by the book ?
Bryan, I'll be keeping her for another year but have decided to ride it mostly in the dunes and night rides and not ride it as hard as I would like to - I'll be focusing on the two wheeler for the kooky stuff (if I ever learn to ride it) ??

My tranny repair was done by Alba. They charged me 12 hours labor. I dropped the quad off and picked it back up. I've since had the whole motor apart and will do all repairs myself from then on.
