Default 2002 Sportsman 500HO knock at idle.

I just bought a 2002 Sportsman with 4000 miles on it. It runs great but it has a knock at idle only. It sounds almost like a sloppy piston in a 2 stroke. Should I be concerned with this noise?

It could be the primary clutch ot the valves. I would check the valve clearence if it hasnt been done in awhile. But just about all (including mine) 500 HO motors seem to have that "knock"

They are just some knocking sons-of-guns. After riding polaris quads 5,000 miles, I'd worry if it didn't knock.

One explanation for the knock that I've heard about is the EBS ratcheting in the primary at low rpm and speed. Sounded as good as any other theory.lol
