My guess is that either the float is stuck open or that the choke isn't pushed all the way back in, which is common because sometimes they become a real bear to pull out and push in.

I think the outlander is a peice of s h i t my friend has one and he fouls out a plug every time he rides and it wont idel and when he took it to the dealer they checked it over and said it was the battery so they gave him a new battery any it happened again he is probaly going to sell it for a 500 HO

honda450es4x4, sounds like your buddies outlander needs some carb tuning....itd be a waste to unload it on someone else, if it only needs an adjustment. Every outlander ive riden has been a fine running machine. He should see a different mechanic.
