Bigbadscrambler, I had a problem with the timing mark I thought you might be able to answer. The manual says to line up the "T" mark in the timing hole, but for some reason it won't stay lined up with the hole, it keeps moving just past the hole, do you think I could still adjust the valves with this slight offset? any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

 

Take the plug out to keep the compression off it.

 

The plug is out ! The "T" mark just doesn't want to stay visible in the hole, it moves JUST past it.

 

as long as it is close be sure that both sets of valves are shut(slack in both) and set it from there.

 

It is a pain in the **** to get that lined up. But like ftwflh said, just make sure that both valves are closed. It may go a little past, but try your best to get it in the center. I must have taken me 1/2 hour to get it lined up. That "T" mark is on the crest of the cam lobe and is hard to keep it there without going over.

Did you remove the timing chain cover? That is easier than looking for the "T" mark. Remove that cover and rotate the engine until the camshaft sprocket locating pin is facing upward directly in line with the crankshaft to camshaft center line. That might make it a little easier

 

I saw the picture in the manual but in the instructions I don't know why that step (remove the camshaft cover) is not written in the steps? but I will remove that cover and line up the marks. thanks!
