gas gas questions
#1
im looking into buying a 450r honda or maybe one of the gas gas quads...i just wanted to know if anyone was having any major problems with the gasgas 450s, if the dealers were helpfull with any problems, and also how these things are for trail and cold weather riding. i was previously considering a cannondale, but ive been hearing about serious internal engine problems with them. just wondering if gasgas was having any problems with thier efi system or their electronics. i also wanted to know what the warrantee coverage was one the gasgas...
thanks--
sold my 400ex, and now i need somethin to keep up with my friend's yfz450 yami
any info would be helpfull...thanks

The orginal 450's were having problems with the starter and gas tank leakin. The 04 models now have a heavier starter and a different style gas cap (screw on type instead of key lock).
All the GasGas models have had stiff steering issues, which is do to caster angle being off and wrong valving on shocks. I've heard GasGas is correcting these issues also. Best bet would be to go to your local dealer and look one over and try to get a test ride on one before purchasing. If the steering feels like it has a steering damper on it then the front end has not been updated.
Side note my dealer has informed me that GasGas will be releasing a new 04 models (450 and 300) with an added reverse gear. I don't know when this machines will be available. Ask your dealer the details on this.
As for the EFI system on the GasGas is is totally different than the cannondale one. If I am not mistaken I think the people that do the system for the GasGas 450's are the same company that does the programing and systems for the indy cars.
Hope all this helps. As for how it compares to the Honda and Yamaha 450's read the lastest issue of Dirtwheels.

I got a call last week saying I will have a new 04 450 at my door this week, so I will tell you what it feels like compared to the 500 we are building as I speak.
