Magnum 425 4WD not engaging
#1
Hello! We recently picked up a used 95 Magnum 425 which had a few problems, ie. no 4WD. With the 4WD switch engaged I get no light on switch or on dash telling me that 4WD is working. I've traced the wiring/voltage back to the switch in the Ez shifter. I am about to dismantle this but am wondering how big of a job it would be? Also, has anybody else had this problem of the 4WD not engaging and what kind of problems were encountered with this?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Kanard

Kanard,
Before you do any major things... don't forget to check if it actually engages. It may be the light that's out. Get a jack and lift your bike up to check to see if the 4wd engages... that would save you tons of trouble if it worked. Hope this would help.

Kanard,
On the older models... if its gonnna be ridden by an experienced rider, what I would suggest is disabling the reverse override button and sputter-box.
Polaris has the AWD and Reverse all tied together thru these various switches.. When ANY of them fail, you end up with "ghosts to chase"..
My Girlfriends Scrambler 500 started having problems about a year ago, it would die if you took it out of forward without the awd engaged and the override button depressed.... That was more than I wanted to fix, so I bypassed it all, and have had NO problems since that day. The only thing is that I had to explain to her that when she shifted to reverse, it WOULD have FULL POWER WITHOUT pushing the override button.

Thanks for all the info...I never thought of putting the bike up and testing if the 4Wd was engaging(I just ran up against a tree) I just dove into it late last night and it turned out to be the switch in the EZ shifter that was shot. I was able to pick one up from the dealer here(still waiting for the rubber boot which was ripped) installed and re-assembled and now 4WD works fine.. I'm all loaded up and ready to go fishing in the morning. Can't wait to try and get stuck..Maybe I'll have a chance to pull my brother out (he has a 1999 Suzuki KQ 300)
