Default 250r, or YFZ450

ok ive finally narrowed my decision on what bike to get...its between a 250r and a yfz450. i have never ridden the 250r but i have the yfz450 and i know that it is darn fast. how does the 250r compare. i know it is known for its legendary handling characteristics and i know they win races but what about the engine. i also i know that i can buy a nice modded 250r for a good price, in most cases less than a new stock 450. after i sell my raptor and yz250f i will probably have about 10 grand, maybe a little less to spend on my quad and parts...and here comes that debatable part...if i did get the yfz, i would not have much money to pay for aftermarket things, in the area of 2 grand but that doesnt seem to buy much, and the problem with buying a used bike is that you are typically buying someone elses problems.
any advice needed
johnny

I was in the same boat that you are in. I had a 2002 Raptor and never really liked being like everyone else. I sold the Raptor and bought a 1986 250R from a buddy. Now I enjoy having a 250R, not because it is as fast as the Raptor, but because I am usually the only 250R at most of our local ride spots. In general, the 250R is not as fast as the 450, but can be made much faster. In a drag race, the stock 250R will get beaten pretty bad. Side by side, the machines are very close, but I prefer the 250R, and enjoy it much more than my Raptor.

You can probably buy an R with 15 grand or more in it for 8 grand or so, then have money left to do anything that is needed.

The big question is do you want a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke?

worried about being able to fit in racing classes or not?

Both great bikes.

ok i really really want to get a 250r but what are the ups and downs for both...i know the 250r is a bike for handling more rather than a speedy bike(in stock form) but i cant seem to find a bike for under 7 grand in my area that i can buy...so i guess im going with the yfz...
