Just out of curiosity...not being a smarta$$....but why would you buy a DS for trails? It's lousy on trails.

Lousy on trails???? Which sport quad has the most suspension..DS..Which one has the most Horsepower..The DS...How is it lousy on the trails?? The only quad I feel comfortable on is the DS..

I all I do is trail ride...including Tight woods trail ride..The only thing I couldnt keep up to was a Pro racer on a KTM dirt bike...

I agree with dsdrew. My quad has seen very little sand mostly wooded trails in Northern Wisconsin. As far as I'm concerned it is the only sport trail machine that is worth riding. I ride with 5 raptors, 1 400 Z, and 1 Preditor with the exception of the Preditor I can put more miles on in a day with less fatigue due to suspension. With power second to none.
For the original question I have 2000 DS RWR CDI, TM45, ported intake, K&N with no lid, and a RWR pipe on the way. If you ask me the CDI is a must!

Most of my riding is in the sand nowadays. But the DS does great on the trails. It is a little bigger to fling around, but it does great. Most of the riders here in Oregon ride in the sand. But there are some pretty good riding areas up in the woods. I have kept my X set so I can go back and forth with the switch of some tires. I purchased the X for its looks, but mostly because of the reinforced rims that come with the Baja. Hope you enjoy your new ride. You wont regret it.

Ride safe,

the bear

99% trails & tracks. Went to the sand 1 time and hated it. The DS works great on trails and dirt.

i love my ds, can fly threw every trail around my place, have yet to find another quad that can pull away because of the smaller width, the ds jumps as good as any other quad in my opinion, lands like a pillow, can't throw it around like an ex but i like it

btw i noticed u have the ad boivin full kit, i was going to get the tracks for my ds, how do you like them? have you went ridin with any snowmobiles wit it? how do they float?

just to chime in, my 00 ds is set up for AMA hare scrambles. i race the circuit here in lower michigan (go blue!!), and always get weird looks from everybody on their little 400s. i don't think they like the idea of me having 250 extra cc on them. i do pretty well with it except a couple of courses that were too narrow and i couldn't race, but other than that what other quad out there has the power and suspension out of the box???? none.

Man, I thought my exwife was crabby!!!!!!!! Geez, I hope they check you guys for small arms before they let you in the door here!

Okay, okay....let's just say that I don't think its great. Too wide, no reverse and I can't get skid plates for it unless I order the baja version from Bombardier. Nobody makes a trailing arm skid plate for the '04 yet.

Besides, the only time I took it out on rough trails I couldn't follow biggindbs on the Raptor everywhere he went (The Raptor is much narrower than the DS) and then the DS ended up on top me when it caught a tree root in a deep rut. Yeah, that was fun. These things weigh like 500 lbs.

It is my favorite ride though. Loud, fast and comfortable.
