2-stroke lives on.

Just got back from a lengthy conversation with the local Yamaha dealer. He agrees that is would be a sad thing to say good by to the banshee and its little brother the blaster as well as the countless YZ's. However he said we won't have to just yet. By 2006 alot of people say no more 2-strokes will be manufactured, but that might not be the case. The only reason that the 2 is under fire is because of its high emision levels into the enviroment. BUT!, if we can solve this problem then it wont be a problem anymore. And that is exactly what is happening. More and more companies are investing money to try and make the 2-stroke as enviromentaly friendly as the 4. Bombardier has already done it. They have produced a engin that is almost as identical as the original 2 but follows the regulations for emisions. The only obstical that they have yet to over come is that they are having trouble getting the same hp and torque as the "old" 2 stroke engine had.
Lets just hope that in the next 2 years to come they can overcome this and who knows what we will end up, lets just hope it sounds like bees, and rips like he11.

I agree. It would be a shame to get rid of All 2-strokes.
I think Bombardier has made it known to the other companies that 2-strokes can live on,and still reign supreme if the manufactures want it that way. But I think you'll see the 2-stroke quads go for sure, but they might give the 2-stroke bikes a make over to have them comply to the new regulations. It looks like Yamaha has made big strides to fill the gap that will be left when the Banshee goes away.
If thier is any company out thier that will DEFY the greenies it is Yamaha!!!! and I also hope Bombardier takes thier technology with thier 2 strokes, and produces ANOTHER DUNE KING!!! this time with a 580cc twin modest 90hp 2-stroke!!!!

Lets just hope that they can slove the problem of the lost power. If they can do this then 2-stroke will keep on going just like before and everyone will be happy. With a few minor changes I think it can be done and then we wont have to say good by to the banshee

My blaster cleaned up nicely when it comes to emissions. I just changed oils, and I find that I have less brown stuff on my grap bar. What it came to was switching from Honda oil that costs $5 a qt to $8 a pint.

unfortually, the people who are making the decisions about the emision laws dont believe that. The people who are making these laws are probably sitting around in a office watching some kid on a banshee roast the sh!+ out of some 4 strokes and said "hey that kid looks like hes having fun, . . . lets make him miserable." Of course we could all make our quads real clean, we can just leave them in the shed. but people wont do that and that is the problem. All it will take is a better design on the ports, and exhaust and i think 2-stroke should be stronger then before.

Honda (cars) has a ZLEV (not Ulev) car i saw in popular mechanics, they said that it had emissions that sometimes were cleaner than the air outside! wow, im sure they can do that with the small engines of 2stroke quads.
