Best Belt for 2003 P650?
#1
Well Guys,
I have 2000 miles on my origional belt and I am out of shims to remove. I am getting some squeeling on hard takeoffs and I want good performance for my first try at the ice drags next weekend. I am torn, do I go for a P360, P650 or P700 belt this time around. Who has tried the different belts and what has your experience been?

NewBeatle has done a comparison of theses three belts and two other ones. Due a search on the forum on 'belts' and you will find it. I personally have gone with the 700 belt and it's more reliable so far and I gained about 2mph on top speed.

You know that the 700 belt has to be better, or they wouldn't have changed it for the more powerful quad ( the same belt is used for the 700 Prairies, & the 700 V Forces )... I currenly have a 360 belt in mine ( only because my local dealer didn't have a 700 belt when I needed one )... the 650 belt is by far the weakest, & unrefined... it was developed when the quads were full time 4 X 4's ( 300 & 400 Prairies were not selectable, so these belts were designed to littereally explode, when they went bad, to keep the wheels from locking up, if the belt broke wrapped around & locked up the secondary clutch )... these quads had extra warning labels, as running high speeds had to be done in 4 X 4 mode, & if the front tires locked up at speed, the results could be ugly... with the selectable quads 360 / 650 / 700's, they felt that most people would not run high speeds in 4 X 4 mode, so, after the 1st years production, & with the release of the 360 ( selectable ), they started putting in belts made out of more durable materials... both the 360, & 700 belts are a few mm wider, requiring additional shims, when switching over from a standard 650 belt... the 360 belt is the same over all shape as the 650 belt ( kind of diamond shaped ), where as the 700 belt is more a standard wedged shaped belt ( I feel the shape of the 700 belt puts more contact area on the surface of the sheeves, both reducing the chance for grooving your sheeves, & providing better hook up between the belt, & the sheeves... If I were buying a belt right now, there would be no doubt in my mind, I'd buy the 700 belt...
