Default got my duncan pipes, need jetting help, please?

hello again, i FINALLY got my duncan's yesterday. i know nothing about jetting. they sent a 145, 148,150 and a 152, recommending 148/152 for sea level/60-90 degrees. that would be fine if it were summer but right now it's been between -10 to 35 degrees up here in the land of nothing. i've read that many people don't change jetting from season to season so i don't know what to do. no real mods yet, snorkal removed, some weight savings and a brite green spring to put in. so can any of you help me? i want to install the pipes now, but i crash enough, don't need to burn it up too! please and thank you- Sean

just install the pipes and ride it and do a plug check by holding it full bore and shutting the key off while the throttle wide open. then right were you stop, pull the plugs and look to see if there light tan color. if they are leave them alone if there black drop down a number on the jet size and if there white go up a number on the jet numbers. you'll be alright.

Hey Higgs, I have the Duncan pipes. I installed 160/165 jets ( I'm at around 1100 ft.), removed snorkel, and propped the front of the airbox open. I also installed a twin-air filter. My personal opinion is the stock filter is as good as any. It's nice having two though, since you can keep a clean oiled one on hand. I have had my duals on for a while, but I haven't checked the plugs yet. I'm probably a little rich, but she runs great. Maybe when it warms up a little, I'll do an oil change and check those plugs out. Hope you like the pipes. They sure do get a lot of attention. I just got the Dalton clutch cover. If it's nice out tomorrow, I may put that on with my plain spring and go raptor hunting

By the way, it's not a good idea to run lean very long. With the duals and airbox mods, you are probably pretty lean. Rushing quite a bit more air through the V. Be careful

my only airbox mod is snorkal removal. when it was stock i couldn't even prop the airbox cover without it popping, which i thought meant too lean??? it's not popping like that with the duals on/stock jetting. gonna ride it a little tomorrow and check plugs to try and figure out what is going on. what is the stock jetting anyway? oh yeah, i'm at sea level.

they look awesome, i dont like the flange setup, barely enough threads on the stock bolts to hold the headers on. sounds baddass, (i never thought I'D say this ), but i'm a little worried about aggravating the natives.

Stock.....135/140......Yeah your neighbors will not like your pipes nearly as much as you do. Just remember the pipes are a pretty big investment. We need to find the maximum air/fuel mix that the V will burn effectively to get the most bang for our buck. Otherwise, we just spent a bunch of money for more noise I almost forgot the looks

Bigcreek did you notice a big change with the Duncan pipes? Have you raced against anyone before and then after the pipe install to compare? How much did you end up paying? Other than the flange setup was the install easy and do you like the fit and finish? How load are they really, compared to HMF or Alien have you been around any other V's to tell difference?

Yes, big difference with the pipes. There's a heavily modded raptor around here that hit me up to race when I was stock. To add to the humiliation, he wanted to race with a passenger sitting behind him. He beat me badly.....with a passenger on the back Then I got the pipes and the hpd plain+160/165 jets. I also removed the snorkel and propped open the airbox cover. Next time he was very surprised. I beat him on bottom end and top end. When I was stock, I also got beaten by a heavily modded 400ex. After my mods, I beat him easily. I haven't compared them to any other pipes. I'm the only V within several miles. Mostly raptors and honda 4x4's around here. I think the cost was $699.00click here The fit and finish is pretty nice, but I had to drill the right hole on the rear flange out about .030 or so for clearance on the stud. It wasn't much, but it would not go on otherwise. I told Duncan about the issue. I probably got one of the first sets, so they may have that resolved now. They kinda made me feel like I wasn't doing something right, but I can promise you mine would not go on without drilling that hole out a little. I also had to grind .020-.030 off the right side of the same flange for clearance. These were minor set backs, but for the price I was expecting them to be flawless. Hopefully they took me seriously and resolved this. I believe they pride themselves in their work. They did offer my money back, but I opted to just fix them and forget it.

i didn't have to drill mine but it was a pain, alot of wriggling, hold it just right........crap. i learned how to jet it today. the thing rips, pulls all the way to the top instead of falling on it's face. the pipe cooks the inside of my leg and melts my pants, gonna have to put the stock heat shield back on. mine had 135/140 jets, put in 148/152 'cause that's what i had, haven't checked the plugs yet but probably a little on the lean side??????think i'm gonna try 155/160?????? then put my brite green/three spacers in and give it a shot. can't wait 'till someone truly figures out how to dial the clutch in.............the pipes sound sweeeeet!
