400 exers please help

my 2000 exer came from dealership with to much oil my dad said not to worry,6hrs later i went to change my oil and broke a bolt off in on the oil filter cover,i took it back to dealer ]ship ,they then put to much oil in it again,arent you sopose to warm the engine first to get a correct reading??? please help thanks

The engine takes 2 quarts of oil when you do an oil change, no more, no less. To check the oil properly, according to the service manual, park it on level ground, let it idle for 5 minutes to warm up, then shut it off, and a minute or two later check the oil by unscrewing the dipstick, wipe it off, then re-insert the dipstick WITHOUT screwing it in, pull it back out, and it should read in the cross-hatched area. If it's too full, you run the risk of blowing out a seal somewhere. If it's not full enough, you know what that can do.
