Viper 90 Heavyweight Riders
#3
Here's some info I found in my archives. It appears it applies to many 50-90s. Especially to the 50s. Don't know how true it is for your specific brand of mini (because each brand has a MAX rider weight recommendation), but it sounds like it applies to many... Especially if the rider is OVER the brand's MAX rider weight recommendation...

The biggest problems you will encounter (and this applies to all of the 50/90cc modern youth ATV models), where the rider weighs more than about 100 pounds is:
1. The three sliders in the transmission variator will tend to crack and fail more frequently than not. This will result in the need to replace the variator and, until it is replaced, the transmission will not operate properly.
2. The stock pulley spring on the 90 and more so on the 50 cannot usually prevent the belt from slipping or from allowing the transmission to move into the higher gear ratios or down gear properly on a steep up hill.
3. The stock shocks will tend to bottom out and push the rubber bushings out of the shock ends. On the front shocks, this problem will lead to handling problems.
Other than the three problems listed, you should be OK. If you upgrade your shocks and the transmission, you will not have a problem.
