Just a little word of encouragement for all you polaris owners. I bought my 2004 Polaris Predator 500 in January. I have ridden it for probably close to 40 hours now, and the only problems I've had with is that my plastic was rattling cuz it was loose, and I had the infamous brake hose problem associated with the 2004's (recalled). Now my best friend bought 2 brand new 2004 Yamaha Raptors about 2 weeks ago and has ridden them for maybe 5 hours and here's a list ...

Blue Rappy- Tail light doesn't work, Plastic was also rattling loose, and ... TRANNY IS SHOT (won't go into second gear, and sometimes wont go into first)

White and red Rappy- Grab bar fell off while riding, Keeps cutting out while he is riding and backfiring like it's hitting the rev limiter but it's not even close (seems like the rev limit that the reverse gear has), and also he lost his rear brakes on our last ride

Now I'm not trying to knock yamaha or anything, but BOY AM I GLAD I GOT MY PREDDY!!!!!!!!!

I have raced him probably 10 times, and I lost once. The one time I lost I shot the nose of my preddy sky high and barely saved it. Started in first gear by accident. That's the last time I'll do that ... whew. We are neck and neck until I hit 4th gear EVERY TIME. It's like I get power and he loses it at the same time cuz we'll be pacing each other until 4th and then I just pull away.

You need to practice a little then, you shouldn't need to start in second. You will do a lot better starting in first. Sit on the tank through first then plant you *** then rest of the way!!

Hey brad,

Thanx for the tip but..... ummm no. I changed my front sprocket to a 13 tooth so it's a waste of time to start in first gear. As soon as the clutch is out you have to waste time shifting.

By the way, I do know how to ride......
