I have a stock 1982 185s and i want some more speed. Beacause all my friends make fun cause they blow me away on their quads.(440 ex, predator, 400ex,310r. I wanna know what i can do to get more top speed, whether its inside the engine or if its just a simple air filter???? Does the cobra megaphone system add much power or just sound?

 

How can you put a 185s against Preds and 440ex's? I dont know what you could do to speed it up.

For top speed you could do:
Smaller rear sprocket (less take off....more top speed)
Larger front sprocket (less take off...more top speed)
Taller rear tires (less take off....more top speed)
For more power you could:
Higher compression piston
Port out the head
Better exaust
Better air filter

If speed is your only concern, you could gear it for speed only, but you are not going to be happy at all on the trails.

I had a few geared up 185 and 200 models bak in the day for just running up and down the road [seems stupid now]. Stok, the 185 will not pull an outrageous gear ratio, but putting an exhaust and cam in will make up the difference.

You can buy a 13 tooth front sprocket for $5.00 from PartsUnlimited through your Honda dealer. Buy it and try it out, and you will see what I mean.
