This is an easy one for me.
I had bought a 185s back in the day that was like brand new. Bak then, no one cared if you rode the pavement or not. Awareness of the dangers weren't as rampant as they are now, but to get back to the subject...I was once riding this thing to the gas station wide open with a couple other guys. When we got there, my hands were numb because the machine was vibrating badly. I called myself looking over it but couldn't find anything. We fuled up and continued on, and by the time we got to our riding trails, I was worn out from the vibration. Again, I couldn't find anything wrong.
We went out in the woods anyway, and we came upon a small log, we had to cross. When it was my turn to go over it, the chain came off and my feet were literally ripped from the footpegs, but the 3 wheeler crossed the log. I went to put my feet back on the pegs and it felt strange. Before I looked down, I heard all the " Holy $hi*" phrases from my buddies.
To sum it up, The frame tubes where the footpegs bolt on were broken in half and the engine mount across the back of the engine case was broken as well. When I crossed the log, it bend back the front support so much that my chain came off and the sprocket guard was shattered. I ended up being towed home.
Not a big deal. Once I made it home I stripped down an '82 model that had seen better days and swiped the frame. Stripped mine down and made the frame swap.
All in about 3 hours, so I had time to go riding after all.
That frame is still out in my fathers pasture. I see it every summer and remember that vibrating SOB that caused me a half day ride.....and alot of work.
Ahhh....The cheap days of the sport.
