Our California DMV at work! My friend bought a YFZ recently. At first they sent him a RED STICKER. He went to them and pointed out the mistake, and they gave him a GREEN STICKER right there on the spot. Now, he gets a letter containing a RED STICKER, and saying his GREEN STICKER is not valid!!!

I think they are mistaking his YFZ QUAD for a YZF MOTORCYCLE. Go figure!

 

I have heard of some 4 stroke quads getting red stickers, but I thought they all were those cheap imports from korea (or china or ?).

 

Just tell them you are fresh over the boarder and they might give it to you for free.I bet that one is green.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

It just crossed my mind.

Nevada does not have off road vehicle registration of any kind.
So in order to ride in California you have to purchace an "out of state OHV permit".
When you buy this permit you just give them you 20 bucks and they don't even know what bike it goes on.

So why couldn't you toss your red sticker in the trash and stick on the out of state sticker?
How would they know the differance?

California would be getting paid twice but.....

 

4-strokes can get red stickers. Just look at the YZ450, WR450, YZ250F, WR250F, etc.

If you buy a Raptor in any other state and bring it to CA it will be a Red Sticker. Unfortunately, CA dealers know this and rake us over the coals on the prices they charge for these.

I've wondered what the YFZ will get stickered.

Check out the VIN, what is the 8th Digit? If it is a 3 or a C it is a red sticker!

The Green Sticker Or Red Sticker: If you are going to operate a motorized vehicle off-road only, you must have either a Green Sticker or a Red Sticker that has been issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The Green Sticker allows vehicles to operate on public land all year. The Red Sticker is for motorcycles and ATVs model year 2003 and newer that do not meet the emission standards established by the California Air Resources Board. If the vehicle has a 3 or a C in the eighth position of the Vehicle Identification Number, then it does not meet the emission standards and should be issued a Red Sticker. The Red Sticker is exactly the same as the Green Sticker except that these vehicles can only be operated during certain times of the year. To find out when you can operate your vehicle, call the specific riding area that you want to visit or you can look it up on our web site at http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=21928.

 

We checked his vin the first time, and he should get green. This is beyond comprehension!

 

Maybe frivolous laws will slow down since the extreme left liberals are all getting married in CA???
