Default DS650 front shock adjustment

Whats the trick to adjusting the front shocks on a 2000 DS 650? Did the back one OK , but the fronts have that notched adjustment ring. Does the whole spring turn or do you have to compress the spring to get the notch to retract? The repair manual which I'm starting to think is semi worthless says to take the shock off the bike, turn the adjustment ring and put it back on the bike. There has to be a quicker way. Thanks for the help.

Just grab the spring and turn it, you may have to take the clip out, after you adjust it check your toe setting

The best way to tune the stock shocks is to take out the top and bottom bolts and remove the shock. Then throw them away and buy some pro series works or elka quad rates.

Your killing me. But your probably right. Anyway just adjusted them it was a piece of cake when I finally figured to take the weight off the front.
