Valve Adjustment....need info advice
#1
I got my shims in yesterday. I slapped it in but one of the exhaust valves is still out of spec. One I can stick the feeler gauge .007 maxium on one, but ther other I can clear .010. Do they both have to match up (same gap thickness). I want them to clear between .006 or .008 but my question is do BOTH have to have the same exact tolerance? I know this may sound like a dumb question it just I want to be absolutely certain this time and make sure my DS is in tip top tuned shape. Thanks to anyone who responds in advance. I

I'd leave the cold clearance 0.007" alone and increase the other shim by 0.05mm, to put it at 0.008" cold clearacne. The cold clearances don't have to match, but 0.010" is a little big.
Or you can try heat cycling the motor once and re-check the cold clearance - if it is 0.009" afterwards you might leave it as is and re-check after full breakin.
By the way, over the years more than once, I've calculated what shims I needed and then when installed, I was still off by 0.05mm or 0.1mm. In the future, you'd save yourself time and frustration by picking up a couple different sizes close to what you think you need.

Yeah I should of ordered the set. I ordered a few bigger in hopes it is what I need. I asked the guy to ship it next day. Let's see when it arrives. I'm actually glad I'm learning how to adjust the vavles. It seems pretty simple and straightforward. Once I break it in and get it going I will check it again.
