Pressure washers to clean quad.....gas or electric?????
#1
I am getting a pressure washer but I know nothing about them. I only want to spend $200 to $300 max. Are the electric ones any good or should I stick with a gas powered unit. I know this is sorta off "quad topic" but I figured some of you guys must have pressure washers. Thanks!

The gas pressure washers usually spray more psi (pounds per square inch), than
the the electric ones do, I have an electric on which runs about 1300psi, I use it to
clean my 4 wheelers, wash the car, wash the outside of the house, even used it to
wash the back deck off befor re-staining it. I found that it was plenty strong enough
for what I use it for. I payed under $100.00 for mine at a local hardware store.

The weaker the PSI the better! Unless you wanna wash off stickers? or get water in places you dont want it? The Garden Hose, Simple Green and a good Scrub Brush is really your best bet! Oh I also like SOS pads!~LOL Tight seals and areas like CV boots etc. can do a good job to hold out most water but when a Pressure washer is spraying in at 1300 PSI or more LOOK OUT! Down the Road you will be replaceing boots, bearings, Seals, fittings etc.

Yeah high pressure can be your enemy. Electric for about 100 bucks will be all you need for your quad, your cars, your driveway, etc. You need gas if your washing block walls or stucco and you don't want to take all day. Even with the electric, as MarylandATV said, you might get water where you don't want it if you're not careful, so a wide spray is best. I love my pressure washer but I keep it off of the laser setting... anything that can rip the skin off your hand seems like it might penetrate a seal.
I have the matrix carbon plastics so I can't use an SOS pad... I have to use "scratch out" and color matched polish for best results... but it's a labor of love see my pics.

Appreciate the info guys. I'm glad I asked.....you mentioned some points I didn't think about. Looks like I'll get an electric unit and put the extra money I would have spent on the gas unit towards other things. Thanks again!

with the gas powerd ones you will get mor psi like stated already... If you are cleaning you car or somethin this could also be bad...The High pressure will find little chips in the paint and then gut under it and make a BIG chunck of paint gone...looks really bad

Tried the electric one and returned the next day. It didn't have the PSI! I bought a gas powered one at Home Depot for $299 that works 2 times better for $150 extra. Just my opinion! I use the gas one to clean my house.

I have a gas one. If you do serious mudding on a regular basis you should use a pressure washer. It takes forever to get all the mud out every time with just a garden hose. Just be careful where you spray and you will be fine. Gas pressure washers last a lot longer also. Once you get one you can find all sorts of uses for it.

You guys are giving me a LOT to consider......STOP....MY HEAD HURTS!!!! I guess I need to figure out what else I would use it for and go from there. If I could adjust the pressure (or just be REAL careful) maybe a gas unit would be the way to go.....with our new house (if they ever finish it) I'm sure it wont be used just for quad washing.
