Raptor Head bolts

When I had my 690 done I believe they put stronger ones and retapped the threads but I dont know for sure. I just take my stuff to the shop and they do it. I wish I could do it myself and save TIME and money.....

In a perfect world they should be replaced every time . When you pull a bolt to toque it stretches the threads some what they will eventually loose there draw or "elastic state " and stretch out or go " Plastic " on you .
I believe the YFZ head bolt are ( toque to yield ) and they definitly should only be used once .
One other thing id you are reusing nuts flip them over sounds crazy but the threads will flex back the other direction

well the head bolts dont stretch that much its the threads in the aluminum that are pulling out over time. the holes are only good for 3- 4 torque sessions. then will require heli-coils. DO NOT run a tap into the threads to clean them up because it will take material away that is used to hold the bolts in. you must use a thread chaser.

Well that sound like something that would happen to me!

Sparkskiller I disagree . All bolts stretch . When you torque a bolt you are stretching it and it is pulling back like a rubber band . If you over torque it loses it's elastic state and fails to pull and then it just keeps on stretching . Thats why torque values are so important . Also the cases (aluminum) are enginered with a certain amount of draw area to offset the bolts pull . I have had aluminum blocks that have had countless tear downs and reapps with NO failures .
Just always make sure the bolts or studs are lightly lubed You can still use locktite if nessacary but in small amounts .
