raptor clutch won't engage? or is it tranny problem
#1
The 2002 raptor clutch was working good and the raptor has been stored for a few months due to winter. The raptor fired up quickly last night. I pulled the clutch in and put it in first gear and it launch forward and died while the clutch was still pulled in. So I attempted with the engine off to see if the raptor would roll with the clutch pulled in in first or second gear and it won't. I ran out of light late last night and did not get a chance to play with any clutch adjustments but this seems more than a clutch adjustment.

It has billet clutch basket and ebc clutch in the raptor.
If I did ride it that way would that be hard on the drive train? since I would have to give some gas before I put it in gear since there is basically no clutch at all.

Did you JUST install the new clutch parts? When I replaced the clutch plates in my Rappy I din't have the Pressure plate lined up right on the clutch basket, and it didn't allow the clutch to engage fully. I had to rotate the pressure plate to a couple different locations to make it drop in like its supposed to. Something to think about anyway......

No the previous owner had them installed everything and I think they have been in their a while. I am going to try adjusting clutch tonight after work if enough light is available.

It is probably from the oil drainning off the clutch fibers. Let it warm up for awhile and work the clutch lever a good bit before you try riding. It should fix itself.

Mine does this after it sits for a while so did my warrior. I think its what Ward660R said, I think all the oil drains from the clutch then for a moment I think the plates bond. Just hold your brake and your clutch start it up it might jump or move a few feet then it will be fine.
Your clutch might need adjusted but, I dont really think that is the problem at all.

Make sure the clutch cable didnt fall off the adjustment hook(i dont know how to describe it) It is by your right leg on the case. If it falls off then the clutch cant disengage. If thats not the case, leave it off and pull the case lever for the clutch all the way with your hand, put it in gear and see if it wont disengage. If it wont disengage by hand then its something inside. Or maybe like they sad, clutch needs to warm up.

Well it turned out that it was from the oil dripping off the plates since it has not ran for a long time. I had to really let that thing warm up good and keep moving the clutch for a good 20 minutes. It is working great now. That is the first time that has every happened on any of the atv's I have every owned. Thanks for all your help. I am deffinately relieved it is nothing major.
