My son's first quad was an lt-50. It was sick but here is what I did. 1-Remove the restrictor plug in the intake tube, heat up with propane torch stick a flathead screwdriver into the slit and remove plug. 2- carb work lower the needle one notch. rejet to a 70 main jet. remove the little jet under the secondary jet. replace the secondary jet back into place. 3- Air box Mod. You need to get alot more air into the carb. I drilled half inch holes into the back and put rubber hoses into the holes to keep water out.Buy a FMF pipe. If I remember right the stock plug was a brp8 NGK , I went down to a 7 with out the p before the 7, P means protruding . A protruding plug plugs hurts these little engines. Next remove the oil injector system, this system pumps way to much oil into the motor. I just removed the hoses going into the carb pluged the hose and put a plug on the carb.I then premixed the gas at a 32:1 mix, use a good 2-cycle oil, Maxima 927 or Maxima super M. I ran 104 Klotz race fuel. But 95 oct will will do just fine unless your racing. But do get a good pipe. the pipe on this quad stinks. I did all this and it only cost me $165 for the pipe and $2 for the jet. My 5 yr old raced that quad last year in a XC series and he had 15 wins and 3 seconds.

I had the same problem on an 04 model and just went out and traded it on a 90 E-ton, which my wife like a lot better. Better brakes, electric start, limiter accelerator and more cc's.

why did you lower the needle.. I raised mine up one notch ..it was on muber 3 i went to number 4 from the top.
2..why did you keep the top pilot and remove the bottom. I left the bottom and removed the top. the top jet is alot smaller port than the bottom?
3. im still running the stock #55 main.
Do i need to rejet to a bigger main?
yes the plug is correct. thats what i have in mine now,so i guess i will go to the number you suggested?
ket me know
thanks

If you raise the clip up it lowers the needle in to the jet which lets less fuel into the jet. I removed the little jet way down in the tower. It's real small. I made a mistake and said a 90 jet that;s what i put in my cat sorry that's wrong. It was a 70 jet in the suzuki. I checked my old records. Trust me on this 1. If you can afford a FMF exhust for around $160, It will really wake that little quad up. And You have to open up the air box , the more air and fuel you can get into the engine, that it will run on will make alot more hp. If your not in much water , You only have about a half inch hole in the back of the air box, you can just cut straight thru the hole all the way to both sides and cut down along the sides like a half moon.

click this and go to 2002 then to lt50,then to carb and tell me the part number you removed in the carb.
Also I lowered my clip one notch from 3 to 4, is this right?
I also picked up a 72.5,75,and a 77 jet for the 50

1 last thing.. just to make sure we are on the same page... I lowered the clip which raises the needle. Wouldnt this let more fuel in? There is lot of confusion when folks talk about raising and lowering the clip. I just dont want us to misunderstand each other..LOL

Hello,
just for your info, people dont talk about raising/lowering the clip, its the needle.
When lowering the clip you raise the needle which give more gasflow.
Hopes this helps you when reading other posts.
Best regards Evert

well thanks for your "INFO"
but to raise or lower the needele involves raising and lowering the clip. I am well aware of how carbs operate. just alot of people call the parts different names.
