Default 12 T front sprocket on a Warrior

Im thinking about playing with the gearing on my Warrior, Would dropping to a 12 T
sprocket on the front give me a noticable jump in torque/lowend? Running the calculations looks like
I will lose 5 mph top end, which is fine. If anyone has done this please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

You will notice a little difference in torque, but man its I only lost 5mph, then it was a big 5mph, because it seemed like I could hit about 65-67 tops, now it feels like 55 tops...

Hey warrior68man, whats a little? I would like to be able to use third gear more on hills, where now I use second, plus I would like it to wheelie easier in second when I crack it open.

Well, depending on the hill....theres a huge hill climb around here...I can only do it in second...I have tried it in 3rd and bogged down near the top...but this hill is huge...and very steep...so...

It works good tho...I wish I had this much torque without loosing top speed

I found a pretty big diff in my low end with the 12T. Before I put it on I could barely pull the wheels in 3rd, and was having the same trouble on hill climbs .. 1st and 2nd were fine, but there seems a big leap up to 3rd. I haven't had a chance to do anymore hills since putting the 12T on, but I know that I can now pull the wheels in 4th with a little bit of effort. I ordered and received at JT 42T rear sprocket which I plan to install this week (maybe tonight). I hardly ever get a chance to get up to the Warrior's top speed. The best I had with stock gearing was 110km/h, now with the 12T front I can hit 102. That's 8km/h diff (5mph). Honestly .. I don't miss it at all, and I can still hit 102 .. and much easier than before. Fuel consumption is up tho .. revving higher for trail riding ...

1st gear on my warrior was a waste of time with a 12t. I got better results going to 14t, but I had some healthy mods.

BadDay350,

First off, what type of riding do you do most and what size rear tires are you running now?

I went with a 12 tooth after changing to 22" inch Kenda Bearclaws(mud) from 20" Kenda Dominators (track) in order to keep about the same overall gear ratio.

With 20" tires and a 12 tooth front, you will probaly be geared too low and 1st gear will be usless. So, to answer your question, it will depend on the rear tire size you are running to determine best front gear to use.

My suggestion is use a 12 or 13 tooth front sprocket on 22 and larger tires and 14 or 15 tooth front sprocket on 20" tires.

I agree, a 12 tooth with 20 inch rears just feels like a bunch of pointless shifting to me. The reason it lets you pop a wheelie in 2nd so easy is because first is now useless and 2nd is the first usable gear.
