How to check Dipstick guage (lol serious question)
#1
Alright... A lot of manufacturers differ in the way they tell you to read the dip stick...
i know most say after its cleaned off the first time, to just set it back in the hole (without threading it down)
and then a few say to actually screw it in to get a proper reading....which is it?
most everyone around here always screws them in.... but i know yamaha says to just set it in... and it is probably making a considerable change on the level....
so, does anyone know for sure which way it is for the Bomb?

I only ask because when my friend was picking up his two new grizzlies at our local yam shop, the owner was saying to only drop it back in...

Do you know what the temp/sand is like up there in early april? (im hoping its not too stiff)

The weather/sand can change from day to day, I hope the weather stays good up there for a while. I am going OPENING WEEKEND I don't think I will be back when you guys are going, but hope to make several trips there this year.

Wayne,
Where did you get your information about threading the dip stick all the way down after cleaning it?
On automobiles, an engine is supposed to be able to hold approximately 20% extra oil without a problem (beyond that it should be foaming.) I would assume that an ATV can do the same thing. so what is 20% of 3.98 liters? I always just put in 4.0 liters, makes it easy

From Operator's Guide:
With vehicle on a level surface and engine
not running, check oil level as follows:
1. Unscrew dipstick out and wipe clean.
2. Screw dipstick until it bottoms.
3. Remove dipstick and check oil level.
It should be between lower and upper
marks.
4. Add oil up to upper mark if required.
5. To add oil, use a funnel to avoid spillage.
Do not overfill.
6. Properly tighten dipstick.

well for my rancher. it says jsut to take the dip stick out, wipe it clean, put it back in w/out screwing it back in, then take it out and check the levels. it must be different for different machines?
