Default 250EX suspension . . .

After riding my husband's Z400 quite a bit lately, I REALLY dislike the suspension on my 250ex. I've also come to the realization that the 250's suspension is what is causing my back to start aching horribly only a half-hour into a ride. I realize that's why the Z400 costs double what the 250 cost, but I'm wondering if I spend the money to have a better suspension put on my 250, will it make a big difference? I like that nice cushy ride. I'm seriously considering selling my 250 and buying the Z400 off my husband, and then he's going to get a 450 (something . . . he hasn't decided yet). For safety reasons, I have to say I also like the added power for hill climbing and the fact that it's longer & wider - I don't feel like I'm getting bucked off every time I go over a rut or whoops. I feel so much more confident on the 400. Perhaps my skill level has simply outgrown a 250?

Looks like you answered your own question.

1. 250ex goes to the classified ads
2. Husband should get his checkbook ready

Ha ha! You're right! I think even if I had the suspension done, there's still the power and size issue that'll bug me. I'm only 5'3" and weigh 120 lbs. though, but I still like the power of the 400. I kind of miss using a clutch too.

I just found out the Honda 450 doesn't have an electric start or a reverse gear, so there goes that one - husband won't want it. Darn, I was hoping to add another Honda into the family.

If you are small and the Z is big for you, consider the 300EX. It is mid size (just like the 250EX), but has real sport quad suspension.

Both my wife and I ride 250 ex's and she had the same problem we changed the rear shock on the swingarm to an adjustable shock and it made all the difference in the world for her I like it to and have done the same thing to my 250

After many visits to different dealers, I've decided on an '04 400EX. Will probably get it this weekend and put my 250EX in the Recycler Ads. I'm sure it'll go like hotcakes - in great condition and has wheel extenders (1.5" on each side, front & back) and brand new DG nerf bars. Husband is just going to keep his Z400 - after all, it IS really nice (Yoshimura pipe, jet-kit, carbon fiber accessories, etc.).

I think you will be very happy with it, good pick. What color are you going to get?
