i have a yellow DS and i need new plastic, i have the ceet flame and checkered seat cover. I thought about getting all black plastic, but will it scracth easy and look dull? or should i stick with the yellow

If you run cut fenders and maybe add a graphics kit the blk is good but without cut fenders it will scratch really bad. The front will be okay but better with some graphics. If you are running it plain with full fenders Id stay yellow.

I have all black plastic, and it is hard to keep looking good. It shows everything, and it looses its shine pretty quick. If I keep my DS all black, It will be painted black(professionally).

mine came with black plastic which i switch out for yellow. the black looked good when it was new but every little scratch showed up on it. i tried the tire stuff witch made it shine but then after only a few minutes of riding it was covered with dust. i plan on powder coating my frame black though and painting my engine black so it will go good with the yellow plastic.

I have th BajaX and I've just taken the yellow trim peice off right below the head light to paint it. I've heard around to use Krylons Fusion paint so I've got a can of black and painted it last night. It looks good for now but I will probably have to clear coat it to keep the semigloss look. The paint seems to bond very well to the palstic without having to do much prep work other than making sure the surface is really clean! I don't know if I would try and paint all the plastic black and then have a clear coat over it. If anyone else has thought about or tried this I would like to know??

dont Krylon your whole d@mn plastic....if your going to do it do it right
-clean with a wax and grease remover (PPG DX440)
-give your plastic a 15min rub down with a VINYL treatment (PPG UK405)
-Then go over it with a plastics adhesion promoter (PPG..i cant remember this part number but..its in a pint bottle)
-then make sure the plastic is warm to the touch
-spray your basecoat (get good coverage but remember less is more)
-then spray your clear coat (the more you spray the deeper it looks....just dont get carried away then you get RUNS..haha)
so if your going to do it...do it right...

I appreciate all the info Hoover... Sounds like you done some of this before. That's what these forums are for I guess. If I decide to repaint all the plastic I might PM you with some ?'s.
Thanks again!

Before you paint it might be a good idea to run a light grade 3M scuff pad over the plastic to "tack" it up good......
Ive painted IMCA stock car tail pieces and noses and the only way to do it is to do it right...if not it will either peel, or flake with sucks....but when you do it like this it stays...for example..on my dads stock car I painted the tail and nose the same color blue as the car and the paint stayed on never chipped or flaked....even after being knocked off by a competitor....so if you do it right it can be done to last...
Keep in mind that the kind and type of plastic has different properties of adhersion...
