Default You guys know I got rid of my DS650 right...... OK, now remember the problems I had with it??

I posted this little section in another topic:

Speaking of ALL MY DS650 problems that I had....
The guy I traded my DS650 to for my CR250 is a really good friend of mine. He rode the quad may be an hour total out of the 2 times he took a ride on it and the valve cover seal popped out and sprayed oil all over the place. He brought it back to his place and checked it over. He just called me up and I was gonna fix it for him because it was no big deal. A few days later he was checking it over a bit and it was about empty on coolant.... He figured WTF, and just decided to check the oil..... The oil was COMPLETELY MILK, so that confirms that the waterpump seals are shot for the 3rd time...... I feel really bad about it, yet I'm SO GLAD I got rid of that thing. The only thing that sucks is I'm his "DS650 mechanic" now...

Yup that's the honest truth! OK KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS SAME FRIEND OF MINE WAS ALSO THE GUY THAT PREVIOUSLY OWNED THE DS650 BEFORE ME. (He bought it new, rode it for 2 years, then sold it to me, I rode it for 2 years, and traded it BACK to him for his dirtbike). SO now that he has his DS650 back, he told me all of the problems HE had for the 2 years he owned it before me. He bought the quad new for around $6400 when they came out, WITHIN ONE YEAR of owning this DS OVER $6000 (NOT INCLUDING THE PRICE OF THE QUAD ITSELF) of parts and labor went into this DS and the same dealership did all of the work..... He told me so many things that he had wrong with it the only thing I can remember is the rear shock totally went out and that alone cost $500 to replace.... I'm sitting at my kitchen table listining to him tell me all this $hit he had wrong with this thing and I just wanted to puke from hearing it..... Plus all the while I had it for 2 years my Dad and I put about $3000 worth of replacement parts that were broke and everything. (We did all of the work to the quad). SO you guys are all wondering what's the point I'm trying to make....

I'M SO F*#KIN GLAD I KNEW ALL OF THIS CRAP BEFORE I BOUGHT MY DS650 2 YEARS AGO SO I KNEW WHAT I WAS GETTING MYSELF INTO!!!!!!!!

Imagine putting $9000 into a 4 year old quad for replacement parts, and this doesn't include ANY performance items!!! The really sad thing is, stuff is still going to hell on it to this day.

I have a 2000 DS and it runs like a champ. I have only had to set the valves. I rode all of last summer(about 30-40 hours,HARD ) It is still going strong. I do have to put a new clutch in soon. I did alot of draging last year I can still taste the banshee and raptor meat The animal need to eat soon

the owner of my ds also had the same luck.

the funny thing is he bought a raptor and hasen't had a problem and I haven't had any big problems sence I've owned the ds.
its funny how thing work them selfs out sometimes.

Pushin,

If things are really going THAT BAD with the DS, and there has honestly been $9,000 in parts invested in it (How much of that is labor, or has this been a shade tree mechanic deal the whole time?) To put an end to the problems here is what you need to do:

Contact Annilihater - he knows of a mechanic by the nickname 'the preacher' then, contact that guy & see if you can ship him the engine, have him strip it down & rebuild it. From the rumors I've heard about this guy there is no possible way it could come back with any sort of problem.

Alternativly, I'm sure TheBom or Mr. HP could do the same sort of service with similar results. I'm not talking about powering up - I'm talking about a good ol' tear down & rebuild kinda deal where anything even remotly worn is replaced and everything is reassembled to 110% PERFECTION so that you'll never have any more of these problems. Of course if your going to spend that kind of cash you could splurge a little & get the 720! You really should give this solution a try, then you'll be happy, your buddy will be happy, & we wont hear any more stories of crap breaking - unless you or your buddy crashes, but hopefully that will never happen.

In contrast I've spent $0 on replacement parts for items that have broken due to manufacturers defects on my 2003 Baja. On my 2001 I have about $80 total into it (including the one fan I paid for.)

our 2000 DS i bought from the origional owner(friend of ours) when it was 1 year old. Only things that have been replaced on it is the chain roller!!!! Yes, thats it, 4 year old quad and still the origional battery. We figure it has around 4000 100% sand miles on it. Not once has it been ridden in the dirt. We had 2 raptors we owned from new for about a year, had a few minor problems but know if we didnt sell them, would have major problems(tranny). The DS is the best, most reliable quad out there, you just got a lemon, probably built on a friday afternoon. Oh ya, and my 02 Baja has had no problems since i bought it from a fellow forum member(bajabomber) and it has around 1800 miles according to the trail tech speedometer. No problems with it either except for i stripped the oil drain plug which isnt a big deal since i got it out and bought a new one. If anybody is interested in the 00, let me know, i want to get a baja x.

C'mon Pushin' The $9000 in repairs to a STOCK bike sounds just a bit excessive especially with no modifications to me! You sure your not just jumpin' on the Honda bandwagon? That just sounds (to me ) to be way out there!

Sounds like PUSHINTHELIMIT just ended up with a lemon quad.......it happens. Sorry about the luck man. Just sounds like a quad that needs to go to someone with a lot of knowledge, time, and money. But why trade it to a friend and not a dealer or sell it on ebay and get rid of it totally? Being an ex-mechanic I know never to sell anything with promblems to people you know. Whether its your friend or just someone you know everytime you will end up working on it all the time anyways so you may as well own it.
