Only thing I could think of it your chain slipped or something and it caught it back in neutral? I have no clue...I always have mine in 6th going down about a mile long set of railroad tracks...nothing ever happens.

I can't say for sure, but I can give you some things to check. The first is to check the free play on the clutch, since it might not be fully engaging. You want to make sure it jiggles loosely when it's not pulled in. If it is tight in place the clutch springs won't be exerting their full force on the discs. Another problem could be that tricky reverse lever, since your quad will seem to go in neutral if it pops out of place. I'm sure you would of noticed if this happened though, since you can hear that click noise when it's not engaged. Just be sure to give it a good shake in place if it is the problem. I would definately check your clutch lever free play though, it sounds like your clutch isn't fully engaging. I wouldn't think the clutch would be going on a new quad.

I can give you something even easier to check. Make pistol positive that your reverse/forward lever is locked into the forward position. I had the same symptoms in colorado while rock climbing on my warrior when out of the blue - no forward drive. It would pop in, then out, then in and so on. Found out the lever was not locked in place and once I moved it, problem solved.
Hope this helps.
