Default Anyone running +1 tooth front sprocket on a Raptor? What did you do for a case saver?

Ok I just put a +1 tooth front sprocket on my raptor. Now the stock gaurd dont seem like a good fit so im curious if the aftermarket case savers would? I know the purpose of these but are they really needed like how often do you snap a chain to where it messes up the case?

I ran a 14 tooth front this winter on the ice and the stock components worked fine. All i had to do was replace the chain.

I tried a 14tooth this winter too for ice riding and I didn't have to change my chain at all, just work it a little to get it on when I had the tensioners backed right out, but it fit all stock. I found the 14 tooth way too tall however, I don't think you'd ever need anything over 75 MPH which I get on my 12tooth on a gravel road which should be similar to ice conditions for a race, so I went back to my 12 tooth, man what a difference! I don't think I'll ever run a higher counter sprocket, I just don't ever find much need of anything over 75MPH. Plus it holds even no problem with a Raptor with similar mods with a 13 tooth? Just seems to strain the engine too much, I can't even hit the rev limiter with my 12 tooth, let alone the stock 13 or 14! 4th gear with the 14 tooth feels like 5th gear with the 12 though!

I had to change the chain because I installed a 41 tooth rear sprocket at the same time. The gearing isnt only for top end. On the 5/8 mile track I ran on this winter gearing was everything. I was in between shifts all around the track and had to shift twice on each straightaway. Changing to the 14 put me in the sweet spot and gave me the speed that I needed. Lap times improved dramatically and I was running a few mph faster on the straights.

Granted, a recreational rider will probably not need anything other than stock or a 12 tooth. But with high hp or racing situations, gearing can mean the difference between a trophy or going home with your tail between your legs.

Yeah gearing isnt about just topend or low end. Gearing will make launching different, shift points. I really didnt need to know about gearing I just wanted to know about the case saver. I dont want to run without anything on there. If at the dunes the +1 doesnt bog me I think im going to like it alot more.

I realize what you guys say about the affect on power. The question however was dealing with fit mostly in a stock situation. In yet another different situation you had, I'm sure the 14 tooth did great if you want to hold a gear longer which it does great as long as you have enough power, whereas you had a 41 tooth rear, it's like going just a step up from stock, and under the gearing setup I ran, so even then you weren't geared as high as I was either. My personal preference is the 12 tooth since it works better with the powerband for trail riding, and drag racing without sacrificing much on the top end as a result. But every quad is different, like yours since it was setup for the track you were riding. Just as for BAJA racing using a 12 tooth would be stupid if you didnt' change the rear sprocket since top speed and average speed are crucial to your sucess. But once again, it's all with what works best for your mods and your powerband preference, some like top end, some like bottom end, and some like the blend. I can garauntee you that I won't be putting the 14 tooth back on unless I get a bigger rear sprocket. Try it for yourself, all it's for is a bit more top end, but kills the quad everywhere else on the way there.

I've got 18 in. holeshot mx tires on my rappy. to me it has great accel. but it winds out very fast. what gearing would help put me back to stock or maybe a little taller?

I have a 15 tooth front sprocket and just grinded down the case saver to make it fit.
