weird crackling noise from cvt on p650
#1
I rejetted my carbs two weeks ago. Ever since I re-hooked up the duct that goes from the cvt cover up to the snorkle, I've got a noise that sounds like a little stone or piece of debris is bouncing around inside the cvt cover. I have taken the cover off looking for dirt but can't find any. Has anybody had this happen or maybe it is a noise from somewhere else in my engine and I just think it is coming from the belt?

I had a similar noise. On mine, the little spring at the bottom of the actuator lever had come off (that's the electrical servo that is mounted on the cover). There's also a little clip that holds the spring on. It was either the clip, or the spring itself that was bouncing around inside and making noise. There was no mistaking where the noise was coming from.

You better hope its coming from the CVT. When I picked up my V-Force last summer they started it up to load it into my truck and guess what. It ran like crap and you could hear a metal sound bouncing around, we thought it was in the CVT but it turned out to be in the engine. A chunk of metal was bouncing ontop of the cylinder. I got a different V-Force, lol.
You didn't say your quad was running bad so its probably the CVT.

Well the engine and belt are running fine from a performance standpoint. I was out riding hard today. I checked the servo and found nothing loose. I did turn the main pulley and there is a sound like a tumbling piece of debris. The sound occurs at the same point on each revolution of the drive pulley. Looking for more ideas.

Maybe check the rope starter........mine fell apart inside and parts were bouncing around.........I just took it apart and put the cover back on so I hope the battery never dies or else I am stuck with no hand starter.....................Dave

Thanks for your ideas. The dynatek cdi just came and I will put the cvt cover back on and ride it. Still haven't found where the noise is coming from. No loss of performance yet.
